FLORIDA REGION SHOWED BIG AT 2008 NASA NATIONALS!!
Eight Time Trial Competitors from the Florida Region competed at the 2008 Nationals.  They all did great!  Florida's Team BDR took the podium in every class we entered.
Our Team BDR Florida Representatives were Jared McGillicuddy - Black 02' Corvette Z06 in TTS; Cliff Blanchard - Black 00' S2000 in TTB; Jimmy Platis - 06' Gray Evo in TTB; Dennis Malevanyi - 02' Gray M3 in TTB; Rene Badia, Jr. - 07' Blue S2000 in TTC; Mike Blanchard - 99 Red Miata in TTE; Alex Bolanos 95' Green Miata in TTE; and, Eric Wirgin - 97' Silver Miata in TTE.
Jared McGillicuddy started out way in front and it looked like a First was in the bag.  However, after beating the record, then beating his own record, J-rod ended up taking second in TTS.  Danny Popp (local to Mid-Ohio), edged out Jared for First by about 7/10ths.  Jared was lucky enough to arrive and drive (Rock Star), but ended up with his share of work to do changing wheel bearings and trying to knock off a few more tenths to get back at Popp.
Jimmy Platis came in First Place in TTB edging out year long nemesis Dennis Malevyani who took Second and Cliff Blanchard who took Third.  Jimmy had to overcome a lot to get to the track and even a broken wheel during the event.  Dennis had to drive an hour to pick up a new suspension and install it so he could try to beat Jimmy.  If Cliff would have gotten the set up on his car as good as it was at the last session, we might have seen him further up the podium.
Rene Badia, Jr., our only TTC entrant took First Place and the Mid-Ohio Track Record!  Rene spent the whole event at the front of the crowd.  The only traffic I believe he ever saw was lap traffic.
Rounding out the field, Michael (NASA Program Poster Child) Blanchard, took Fist in TTE.  I am not sure if he took the record, but last news was he was about half a second off.  Alex Bolanos (pronounced Bolanyos), took Second and Eric Wirign was running Fourth.  The last TT session was pretty exciting for TTE.  After running Third most of the week, Alex ran a great last race and even gave Mikey a hard time and took Second Place.
I know Florida also had several racers come up to Nats but I did not keep good track of them.  I believe our racers also made a great showing.
It took a lot of time, money , and effort for our drivers to get up here and do so well.  Team BDR helped out significantly with this.  So, if you have their emails or telephone numbers, or the next time you see them, please congratulate Team BDR and all our Time Trial Drivers on a job well done!
